Press release and Press Conference
Who: Immigrant families and activists
When: Tuesday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission-Justice Mission,
3442 W. 26th St., Little Village, 60623
Why:
On Friday, August 7, before his meeting Mexico’s president and Canada’s Prime Minister, President Barack Obama stated to foreign correspondents that immigration reform will be discussed in 2010. He is not even sure he has the votes to get it approved, and he recognizes that 2010 is an election year.
President Obama broke his promise of immigration reform in his first year as President.
On the other hand, his administration keeps pushing the enforcement of an immigration law he recognizes as broken and senseless. Silent raids, home arrests, deportations and family separation is becoming the norm.
Immigration activists have decided to call for a demonstration on Labor Day, September 7th, to protest against the enforcement of the current immigration law, and to push for immigration reform this year. We are not willing to leave the discussion of this extremely important issue for an election year.
