AGUST 19 2009-The Justice Mission will not be intimidated

PRESS RELEASE AUGUST 2009

Press contacts: Rev. José S. Landaverde (773) 968-4258

Harassment by City Inspectors to THE CHURCH OF

Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission

On August 19, 2009 two city inspectors Antonio Torres and another unidentified inspector came to Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission located at 3442 W. 26th St. Chicago IL 60623, at approximately 2:00pm claiming they received complaints about the mission selling food.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission does not sell food.

Our church has a food pantry that gives away non perishable goods.

We also feed families who have been divided by ICE raids and affected by the cruel immigration laws. It worries us that the same day that Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Pastor Rev. Father Jose Landaverde meets with the City to discuss the permit to peacefully assemble at the Federal Plaza on September 07, 2009, for the "Labor Day March".

City Inspectors arrive at Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission to allege we were breaking the law and would need to speak with our local alderman.

It is of great concern that the City sends inspectors the same week we applied for a permit.

The inspectors came to ask Rev. Father Jose Landaverde for his personal information, and questioning if we were indeed a church.

Our Church is well known in Chicago and the Nation for the work we do with the immigrant community.

Harassment is not new to our community when we speak for the human rights of a marginalized sector of our community. We have seen similar patterns in the past year’s weeks before our community prepares to peacefully march and demand legalization for over 12 million immigrants.

We DEMAND for the City of Chicago to stop their harassment of Our Lady of Guadalupe Anglican Catholic Mission IMMEDIATELY.

We will not be intimidated.

For more information please contact Rev. Jose Landaverde or Juan Perez.

For Immediate Press Release:

Mothers and families afected by the current immigration laws: you are called to a press conference on August 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Plazita Manuel Pérez (located at 26th street and Kolin). Maria Leon, Chicagoan and mother, insists that the current situation of injustice and criminalization of immigration is unliveable. Our U.S. citizen children deserve the right to live as any other citizen child with both parents and without fear of their government. We call this press conference to convoke all media outlets and the community to the immigration march and rally on September 7, 2009, Labor Day.

MEGA MARCH-LABOR DAY MARCH SEP 7 2009

Press release and Press Conference

Who: Immigrant families and activists
When:
Tuesday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m.
Where:
Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission-Justice Mission,

3442 W. 26th St., Little Village, 60623

Why:

On Friday, August 7, before his meeting Mexico’s president and Canada’s Prime Minister, President Barack Obama stated to foreign correspondents that immigration reform will be discussed in 2010. He is not even sure he has the votes to get it approved, and he recognizes that 2010 is an election year.

President Obama broke his promise of immigration reform in his first year as President.

On the other hand, his administration keeps pushing the enforcement of an immigration law he recognizes as broken and senseless. Silent raids, home arrests, deportations and family separation is becoming the norm.

Immigration activists have decided to call for a demonstration on Labor Day, September 7th, to protest against the enforcement of the current immigration law, and to push for immigration reform this year. We are not willing to leave the discussion of this extremely important issue for an election year.
